There is no fixed time to finish Noorani Qaida. The pace depends on the learner's age and attention span, how many lessons a week they take, how much short practice happens between lessons, and whether they already know some Arabic letters. A teacher who hears the learner read in every lesson is the best guide to the next step.
What Noorani Qaida covers
Noorani Qaida introduces the Arabic letters, their sounds, how letters join, short and long vowels, and the early reading of words. Each stage builds on the one before, so moving on before a stage is secure usually slows the learner down later.
What changes the pace
- Lessons per week. More frequent lessons give more chances for the teacher to hear and correct.
- Practice between lessons. A few minutes on the set page most days often helps more than one long session.
- Age and attention. Young children may need shorter lessons and more repetition. Adults may learn the letter shapes quickly but need time on sounds that do not exist in their first language.
- Starting point. A learner who already recognises some letters may start further on once the teacher has checked.
- Consistency. Long gaps between lessons usually mean revising earlier pages before moving on.
How to tell that progress is real
Ask the teacher to name the stage the learner is on, what is now secure and what comes next. Signs worth noticing include reading joined letters without spelling each one out, recognising vowel marks quickly, and correcting a sound after a single prompt. The home practice checklist gives parents simple ways to support this between lessons.
When to move on to Quran reading
A learner is usually ready to begin Quran reading with Tajweed when they can read words with vowel marks steadily and the teacher is satisfied that the foundations are secure. If you are unsure where to start, read Noorani Qaida or Quran reading?
Questions to ask the teacher
- Which stage of the Qaida is the learner on now?
- What should we practise before the next lesson, and for how long?
- What would show that this stage is secure?
- Is the current number of lessons a week right for this learner?
